The first thirty seconds of an approach are not about content. They are about calibration: volume, distance, pace, and exit.
Signal Before Substance
People decide how they feel about an interruption long before they process what was said. Speak at conversational volume from a respectful distance, and give a reason for the interruption within the first sentence.
The Clean Exit
A good approach has a visible ending built into its beginning. Knowing you can leave gracefully removes most of the pressure that makes approaches go badly.
